Before zombies came into vogue and started populated movie theaters, in 2009 a small movie name Zombieland was ahead. Judging by the title, I would have never been drawn to see this movie (as you might, or might not, recall, I do not review horror movies). However, after a recommendation and five minutes of watching it, my prejudices went away and I realized that, although there were zombies, the movie was not overwhelmingly about them and was, in fact, a very entertaining comedy flick.
As the title truthfully reveals, the story is set in a post apocalyptic land in which almost everyone has turned into a zombie. In this setting, the movie gets together four very particular characters played by Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin (the young girl from Little Ms Sunshine). The film is a funny and smart road movie that follows the journey of these characters on their search for a free-zombie place to settle. The best feature of the movie is its characters. From the shy and insecure Eisenberg who has a rigid set of rule to survive in Zombieland to the wild modern cowboy played by Harrelson who is in the search for the last Twinkies in the World, performances in Zombieland are great. Plus, it has one of the best cameos I’ve ever seen (no spoilers).
Even if you don’t like zombies or apocalypses, I would highly recommend this movie. If you are looking for something light to watch and don’t know what, Zombieland is a light-hearted, funny and very enjoyable movie that will not disappoint. It will not change your life but will, for sure, entertain you.
Note: According to IMDB, Zombieland 2 is in pre-production and will feature the original cast!
